Installation, server connection, and the details you need before you start.

Install on your Mac.

SwarmHub requires macOS 14 or later on an Apple silicon Mac (M1 or newer). Download the latest Mac release below, then follow the release’s installation notes.

Download for Mac

macOS 14+ · Apple silicon · Latest stable release on GitHub

Open the DMG or unzip the download, move SwarmHub to Applications, and launch the app. The app is signed with Developer ID and notarized by Apple. Read the release notes ↗

Connect Hermes.

You need a running Hermes server and an API key. Your server runs the agents and connects to the models and tools you configure.

  1. Open Settings → Account in SwarmHub.
  2. Enter your Hermes server’s base URL and API key.
  3. Select Test & Discover to check the connection.
  4. For named profiles, use Add bots from box with one profile=key per line. Each profile needs its own key.

SwarmHub keeps API keys in macOS Keychain. Your desktop stores local history and settings.

Hermes server setup notes ↗

One server, many agents.

A single Hermes server can support multiple agents, each with its own instructions. SwarmHub has no per-agent subscription or fixed agent-count limit. Server capacity and your model providers determine how many agents can work at once.

Connect the agents you already run, or create agents with different roles. Named Hermes profiles keep each agent’s server configuration separate; bind each profile using its own key through Add bots from box.

SwarmHub gives those agents a desktop workspace for threaded conversations, group chats, routine scheduling, and approval review. Available features follow the capabilities your server reports.

Agent setup guide ↗

Choose models by role.

Your Hermes server connects to the model providers you configure. SwarmHub lists the models that each agent’s own profile offers, including supported hosted models and open source models running locally or on your server.

Conversation model

Available now. Open an agent’s Overview → Model → Change model to switch an existing chat from the next message. Set a per-agent conversation default in the agent’s Models settings, or an app-wide default under Settings → Models. Defaults apply to new chats.

Coding model

Separate coding-model controls are planned. Coding threads and sub-agent model settings are not yet configurable through the app; backend settings still determine those models.

Choose your providers and models to balance cost and accuracy. Usage charges, rate limits, and spending controls belong to your model provider or hosting setup. SwarmHub itself is free and open source.

Build from source.

The current prototype uses macOS 14+, Xcode 16.2, and Swift 6. Run these commands in Terminal on your Mac.

git clone https://github.com/conrader/swarmhub.git
cd swarmhub
./scripts/run.sh

The run script builds and launches the app. To build separately, use ./scripts/build.sh. Run the test suite with swift test.

Questions and known limits.

What do I need to use SwarmHub?+

An Apple silicon Mac running macOS 14 or later and a Hermes server with agent profiles. SwarmHub connects to your server using its base URL and API key. To build the prototype from source, see the setup guide for the development toolchain.

Does SwarmHub run the AI models?+

Your Hermes server connects to the local or hosted models you configure. SwarmHub is the desktop workspace you use to talk to those agents and manage their work.

Can I use OpenClaw?+

OpenClaw integration is planned. Hermes is the supported backend today. Follow the GitHub roadmap for progress.

Is it free and open source?+

Yes. SwarmHub is available under the MIT license. Your server hosting and model providers may have their own costs.

How ready is it?+

SwarmHub is in early development. The Mac app is available to download. Features depend on your connected server’s capabilities. Windows and Linux versions are planned.
